About

I graduated from Graphic Design at ArtEZ Arnhem in 2024, where I developed a keen interest in (visual) storytelling. Often approaching large philosophical themes from a small human perspective, and generally with some absurd or fantastical twist, I hope to make the audiences of my narratives both think and feel, and make the world a slightly more interesting place in the process.
I have experience with a variety of media, from books to soundscapes to interactive experiences, though with a focus on animation and audiovisual work.

I Want Nothing (2024)

The animated short film with which I graduated from Graphic Design at ArtEZ Arnhem.
Finch suffers under the pressure of everything, and wants only one thing: nothing. When presented with a rare opportunity, she goes on a quest that leads her down a surreal path past strange phenomena in search of true nothingness.

MOTH (2023)

A stop motion short film that I made over the course of two semesters in collaboration with Nina Kieviet. It is loosely based on the myth of Icarus and tells the story of a moth who finds himself in the afterlife after being unable to resist the deadly seduction of the Sun.
In 2024 it was shown at the GoShort film festival in Nijmegen.

Beeld & Geluid Showreels (2024)

A series of three one-minute showreels that I made together with Ana-Maria Cojocaru and Joshua Pettiti for the archive of amateur footage of the Dutch Institute of Sound & Vision. We made use of 3D elements to convey the depth of the archive, and to narrow the enormity of the archive down to just three minutes of material, as well as highlight the human aspect of amateur footage, we decided to focus on faces, hands, and feet respectively.

The Suggestion of Presence (2023)

This project grew from the large collection of notes that I have on my phone. These notes consist mostly of undeveloped ideas,  incidental observations, or simply words that I thought sounded nice together. In this book I took a number of these notes and developed each of them further in a variety of forms. Some notes I turned into short stories or poems, while others became images or melodies.
I arranged this eclectic collection in a way that I hope might convince an unsuspecting reader that it is all one interconnected narrative rather than disparate snippets, at least for a few pages. It is up to the reader to interpret what this interconnected narrative might be.

Robert and the Models of Narrative Infinity (2022)

A story spanning across four looping videos and a book without beginning or end. The videos each explore a different method of infinitely looping a story (the titular models of narrative infinity), and the book connects them all in an endless story of multiverses and destiny, combining everything I learned from making the videos.

SomniSmoothies (2023)

For this project I collected a database of dreams; some my own, many from others. I deconstructed these dreams into their constituent parts and recombined them to create three unique new dreams, which I then brought to life with a variety of techniques. For the final video I interspersed them with darkness and silence to simulate the dreamless sleep from which the dreams emerge.

The Last Question (2021)

An adaptation of the Isaac Asimov story of the same title. The story is told through still drawings, supported by narration and voice acting by several fellow students and me.
With this adaptation, my goal was to stay true to the original story and preserve its profound themes and immense sense of scale, while giving my own spin to it. Furthermore, since it’s relatively long and complex, I had to make sure it remained interesting and understandable to the audience throughout.

Through the Do(ugh)nut Hole (2022)

An absurd and humorous collaborative worldbuilding project I did together with Chayenne Pop and Tabitha Anderton. In this world, everything is a result of the question: what if this were a donut?
We explored a wide variety of aspects of this world, ranging from anatomical studies of the donut people and the politcal campaigns of their leaders, to both modern and historical maps of the unique geography that arises on a donut-shaped planet and renders of the cyberpunk environment that marks the eternal night on the outside of the donut, to writing systems and chess pieces and postcards.

I Am Universe (2022)

A three-chapter paper-and-yarn-based animation, from the point of view of the universe itself, exploring the relationships between human and universe.

The Wyrd Mystery (2022)

This project started with ambitious plans for an animated film, but, after a twenty-page script and one or two shots, I came to the conclusion that this would be impossible in the allotted time. So instead, it became a trailer for this as of yet hypothetical movie. The story starts with a film noir inspired murder mystery, but the detective protagonist quickly discovers there is more to this case than meets the eye, and before he knows it, he gets swept up in an infinite multiverse. This multiverse is a collection of infinitely diverse worlds, connected through mirrors, each with their own infinite variations and multiplications. To portray this infinity, I called in the help of several of my fellow students ( Joshua Pettiti, Chayenne Pop, Ward van Bemmel, Nina Kieviet and Mila Groeneveld ), leading to a diverse mixture of aesthetics to make the multiverse feel truly infinite.
